“Most of our obstacles would melt away if, instead of cowering before them, we should make up our minds to walk boldly through them.”
-Orison Swett Marden
When you were a child, there were many times when you wanted something, and you would just wish for it all day everyday until you got that basketball or atari game(I’m really showing my age here) that you wanted. However, as you get older you realize wishing can only take you so far, and what you want in life will sometimes come with obstacles. Yet, so many people today refuse to address these obstacles that occur in their financial lives.
Instead of tackling your finacial situation head on, they look for someone to blame, or worry about what will happen, or better yet act like an ostrich, and keep their head in the sand. You can do this, and many people do, but I can tell you through experience, when you finally rise your head up from the sand, your problems will still be there to smack you in the face!
None of the choices I have stated above will lead you to any growth. All it will lead you to is frustration, and lack of financial growth. The only choice that works is proper planning of the mind(how you think about money), and body(what steps are you going to take).
First, you have to start believing in yourself that changing your behavior and your view of money will change your condition and create prosperity and abudance in your life. Half the battle goes into getting up and doing something new or different from how you were doing things to this point of your life. One of my famous quotes is by Albert Einstein who said “Insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results.”
The financial choices you make in your life will always be base on the decisions you make, so you might as well properly plan, so you can handle anything that life throws at you.

If wishes were fishes, even poor men would eat like kings.
This article is very write – wishing things were different do not solve problems. Especially financial ones. You have to want to change the situation, but you must also ACT to change the situation. Whether increasing income or cutting back on expenses, negotiating with debt or selling something you can’t afford, you must actually DO something.
I loved this Blog. I agree that simply wishing for what we need or want will not get it. If we expect to see change we must do something to bring it about. That brings me to my favorite saying which is: If you keep doing the same thing you always did the same way you always did it you will keep getting the same results.
“If you do what you always done, you’ll get what you always got.”
Sort of the same idea that Gerri had.
Anyway, you have to make a change in yourself to bring about financial change. I truly believe that the foundation of good financial decisions is simple patience and self-discipline (characteristics tough to come by these days).
Good post.

I completely agree – you can’t “wish” for things to happen, you have to MAKE them happen.
Just last night I was telling a co-worker how silly he is if he wishes he could not work and start up a band. He seems to think that will be the “easy life”, but as I explined, celebirties work 16 hours a day or more, and he’s be in a different city to9uring every other day. Plus, the chances for success aren’t that high simply by “wishing” for it to happen. I told him he needs to get out there and come up with practicla solutions/
When I read this article it really hit home. You can either talk about it or be about it, but we all know which one eventually prevails! It’s great to wish and write things down, but we eventually have to take action.
